Charts & Reporting




XS Finance has the facility to produce graphical representations of your data (charting), you can view the results in XS Finance or create an HTML version of the report which can then be used in applications which support HTML files such as Internet Explorer or Word.  

Note:  HTML reports will be written to the Reports folder in your installation tree.

If you choose to view the report results in XS Finance you can then commit the results shown onscreen to HTML.

Access charts and reporting by selecting the Charts icon located above the menu bar, then:  

  1. Select the desired account from the Account drop list. Some reports have the facility to report across multiple accounts, for these reports simply tick the accounts which you wish to report on.

  2. Select the Report drop list and select from the following report types:

    Where did I spend my money
    This graph or report will show where your money was spent, grouped by category.

    How much did I spend on
    This report will illustrate how much money was spent on a particular category. Selecting this report type will require a category, to select one simply choose one from the Category drop list. You can also choose to view data from all categories or choose whether to include the sub-categories (via the Menu) for a particular category.

    How much did I spend on (grouped)
    This report will illustrate how much money was spent on a particular category but transactions will be grouped into categories rather than shown individually. Selecting this report type will require a category, to select one simply choose one from the Category drop list. You can also choose to view data from all categories or choose whether to include the sub-categories (via the Menu) for a particular category.

    How much did I pay to
    This report will illustrate how much money was spent on a particular payee.
    Selecting this report type will require a payee, to select one simply choose one from the Payee drop list.

    How much did I pay to (grouped)
    This report will illustrate how much money was spent on a particular payee but transactions will be grouped into categories rather than shown individually. .
    Selecting this report type will require a payee, to select one simply choose one from the Payee drop list.What's cleared and reconciled
    The groups shown are not reconciled, cleared and reconciled. The groups correspond to the transaction state as set in the transaction window. 

    Budget
    This report will illustrate how much of your budget has been used.

  3. Select the Period drop list and select the desired reporting period, a list of predefined periods is available, if these are unsuitable you may select Custom.

  4. Edit the Start Date and End Date fields to adjust the reporting period if required.

  5. Select the Sort by Date field if you wish to sort the transactions by date.

  6. Select the Transfers checkbox if you wish to include transfer transactions.

  7. Select the View menu option to view the report on screen. Select the HTML menu option to produce an HTML file.  Note: If you create the same report type as you are currently viewing in the Browser then you may need to click the 'Refresh' button in the browser to ensure that you are viewing the correct report. Alternatively, select the Graph menu option to produce a graph. Note: Not all reports support graphs

    When displaying the pie chart, select Legend soft-key to display the legend.

    HTML Template Files
    Each of the HTML reports uses a template file, which is located in XS Finances’ installation folder. If you find you need to produce more tailored reports, for example a monthly expense report, then edit the template HTML file with a suitable application (Frontpage).

    Do ensure that you backup the original template file before any modifications are made.
